We usually need to see ID, banks statements and proof of income. However, some types of mortgages like self-employed mortgages will require more documentation.

You’ll usually need a deposit of at least 5% for a residential mortgage or at least 20% for a buy to let mortgage.
This will depend on how many years you decide that you want to pay your mortgage over. However your age and how close you are to retirement may be determine the maximum mortgage length you can get.
If you take out a fixed-rate mortgage the amount you’ll pay each month will remain the same during the initial term. With variable-rate mortgages, such as tracker mortgages, discounted variable-rate mortgages or if you’re on your lender’s standard variable rate, the amount you pay could go up or down.
Most lenders will allow you to overpay your mortgage, usually by up to 10% per year. But this varies by lender so always check.
