Alan is the founder of The Mortgage Factory. He has a wealth of experience in the financial industry, specialising in mortgages as well as insurance.

Steve looks after our clients within Equity Release. Having been in the industry for many years, the knowledge and experience that Steve brings is integral to The Mortgage Factory.

Sam join the company in 2009, with a background in packaging mortgages. Sam is an expert in residential and buy-to-let mortgages.

Johnny is based at our branch in Upholland, and is a one-stop shop for all your mortgage needs! Chelcie originally started off with The Mortgage Factory in 2013 on an Apprenticeship, before leaving in 2017 to broaden her horizons. After a few years of exploring other industries, she re-joined the team in 2022 and has seamlessly fit back in with her not so quiet personality! Chelcie builds strong relationships with our clients, and regularly go’s above and beyond to get matters resolved.

Karolyn has 25 years of experience in financial services, working for a Building Society. Jo used to work with her and convinced her to come on board with us and Karolyn hasn’t looked back since. But, the truth is we only hired her because she makes the tastiest lemon drizzle cake!

Clare joined the company in 2018 after a lifetime working for The NHS, and is based in our Upholland Office with Steve and Johnny. Clare is very supportive, and helps our customers every step of the way throughout their mortgage journey to completion. Her secret? A combination of a passion to help, and a fierce determination to get things done… and a never-ending supply of chocolate!

If you go directly to a lender you will only be offered their products. But at The Mortgage Factory, we look at the whole of market – this means you’ll have much more choice. Plus, using a mortgage broker can also save you time because you won’t have to spend time going to each lender one-by-one.

Yes, we typically charge a fee upon completion of £495. But it can be cheaper if you’re a first time buyer. And there are no upfront costs!

We usually need to see ID, banks statements and proof of income. However, some types of mortgages like self-employed mortgages will require more documentation.

We always take into account the needs and wants of each applicant and offer a completely bespoke service. And we’ll give you a suitability letter which protects the applicant.

You’ll usually need a deposit of at least 5% for a residential mortgage or at least 20% for a buy to let mortgage.

This will depend on how many years you decide that you want to pay your mortgage over. However your age and how close you are to retirement may be determine the maximum mortgage length you can get.

If you take out a fixed-rate mortgage the amount you’ll pay each month will remain the same during the initial term. With variable-rate mortgages, such as tracker mortgages, discounted variable-rate mortgages or if you’re on your lender’s standard variable rate, the amount you pay could go up or down.

Most lenders will allow you to overpay your mortgage, usually by up to 10% per year. But this varies by lender so always check.
